2019 D3 World Series – Day 1 Recap And Day 2 Predictions

Wow, what a day we had in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It’s not Appleton, but not everyone is the 2010 Linfield Wildcats.

*Fun fact – the 2010 Linfield Wildcats were down 10-2 in the bottom of the 9th inning on opening day against LaVerne. They scored 9 runs in that inning to win the game 11-10.

Anyways – we should take a look back at the first day of the 2019 D3 World Series. If you missed our preview and initial predictions you can click the link below:

2019 D3 World Series Preview and Predictions

My bracket is busted. I was 2/4 on my picks for the day. Chapman won as expected. UMass Boston came from behind and TURNED CEDAR RAPIDS INTO BEACONVILLE. The Johns Hopkins Blue Jays unfortunately won in extra innings – scoring three runs in the bottom of the 10th for the walk-off win. As I am writing this right now, Birmingham Southern has a commanding lead.

Here is what the bracket looks like heading into Day 2:

Looking ahead at the games tomorrow, there are some things we can learn from today to help make our next round of predictions. Once again I have gathered the best of the best to help me analyze this next round of games. (Not really, it is just me – nobody replied to my text)

Game 5

BuzzWebster – the Gorloks were my initial pick to win it all. I think they bounce back and live to play another day.

Game 6

BuzzChapman – This is where things get tough. The rare matchup of two teams that I actually played against. In my collegiate career I had a .500 AVG against the Beacons, and a .316 AVG against the Panthers. However, I had a .631 SLG% against Chapman and a .500 SLG% against UMass Boston. My heart is telling be to go with the Beacons, but my slugging percentage says that Chapman will win.

Game 7

BuzzBirmingham Southern – They will continue to roll in this game, the Blue Jays will be tired after their extra inning game from the Day 1.

Game 8

BuzzBabson – the Beavers will bounce back and send Heidelberg home, just like Linfield did in 2010.

My Terrible Bracket

On paper, it should be an easier day for my to follow the action. I’ll be at home instead of in my classroom responsible for 27 humans. It is also opening day of the 2019 NWIBL Season. I may need to dust off my spikes, find my cup, and take 500 hacks off the tee before my first game of the year.
